The climate emergency is one of the most urgent challenges facing society today. Bates Wells had already made strong sustainability and responsibility pledges and became signatories to the Legal Charter 1.5, committing to take action on the climate crisis.
The firm recognised that both lawyers and business teams wanted to enhance their knowledge and build confidence to discuss the climate crisis effectively. They wanted colleagues to feel excited and empowered about the actions they could take, both individually and collectively, to address the climate emergency.
The challenge was to turn high-level pledges into tangible understanding and engagement across the organisation.
We built a tailored climate training programme to encourage conversation, build confidence, and support actionable outcomes for participants.
The sessions were interactive and engaging, covering key topics such as:
The training also guided participants in developing personal and organisational action plans, giving them practical steps to make meaningful contributions.
By combining education with hands-on planning, the programme transformed complex climate information into actionable insight for individuals at all levels.
Participants left the workshops with a stronger understanding of the climate crisis and its local and global impact. They reported feeling more confident discussing sustainability issues and excited to take practical action.
Individuals created personal and organisational plans defining how to include climate action in their specific practice area and the wider team.
By turning awareness into action, Bates Wells is fostering a culture where employees feel empowered to contribute to tackling the climate crisis, both in their personal lives and in their professional roles.
We now run this programme as a key component in Bates Wells onboarding process.
